Conservation Through Education
Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary receives over 15,000 visitors every year
Over half of the young Congolese who visit the sanctuary are part of our education program that collaborates with schools in Kinshasa. The children can observe the bonobos in their natural habitat, right in front of them while the educators from the sanctuary talk about bonobos and other great apes, and the dangers that haunt them. The lessons of the educators at the sanctuary are taken back into classrooms and the students who return from a day at Lola have a whole new view of bonobos!
The sanctuary also organised visits for government officials, policy makers, and other responsible for the environment to encourage effective enforcement of the law to protect endangered species.
